Control Resonant puts players in control of Dylan Faden, whose abilities differ significantly from Jesse’s toolkit in the original game. The Aberrant, Dylan’s transforming melee weapon, has multiple forms that you’ll unlock throughout the campaign. The default blade form offers balanced speed and damage, while the heavy hammer form excels against armored enemies and bosses. Switching forms mid-combo is not only possible but encouraged — each transformation adds a damage multiplier that stacks with successive hits.

Dylan’s supernatural abilities follow a rock-paper-scissors design philosophy. Telekinesis is your primary crowd-control tool, allowing you to hurl debris and even enemies at each other. Shield projection absorbs incoming fire but drains energy rapidly, so use it reactively rather than holding it up constantly. The new “Resonance” ability creates a localized reality distortion that slows enemies and amplifies your damage output — save this for boss encounters or when surrounded by elite enemies. Your energy meter regenerates slowly, so ability management is crucial. Melee attacks restore a small amount of energy on hit, creating a risk-reward loop that encourages aggressive play. Exploration is rewarded with ability points and weapon upgrade materials, so search every side room and optional area. The game’s reality-warped Manhattan setting features multiple hidden areas accessible only through specific ability combinations, so revisit earlier zones as your powers expand.
