Starting Genshin in 2026 can feel overwhelming — years of regions, characters, and systems. These ten tips keep your account efficient from hour one.
Genshin Impact is now one of the largest RPGs on any platform, and a fresh account faces years of accumulated content. You don't need to do all of it. Follow these ten rules and your early-game hours — and your Primogems — go dramatically further.
1. Your starter team matters less than you think
Amber, Kaeya, and Lisa clear the entire prologue and Mondstadt story comfortably. Don't reroll for hours; limited-time event banners rotate permanently, and you'll earn dozens of wishes before AR 30.
2. Spend resin every day
Original Resin caps at 160 and regenerates while you're offline — anything past the cap is wasted progression. Even spending it on ley lines is better than letting it overflow. This is the single biggest difference between efficient and stagnant accounts.
3. Build one main DPS first
Four half-built characters lose to one properly built carry. Pick your strongest DPS (the Traveler with Anemo works fine early) and funnel all weapon and talent materials into them until level 60 and level-6 talents. Then build supports.
4. Elemental reactions are the real damage system
Vaporize and Melt multiply damage by 2x. Swirl spreads elements across groups. Freeze locks enemies in place. A team built around triggering reactions — Hydro + Pyro, Cryo + Hydro, Anemo with anything — outperforms a team of individually stronger characters with no synergy.
5. Adventure Rank gates everything
Story quests, artifact domains, and co-op all unlock at specific AR thresholds. Prioritize Archon quests (the main story): they grant huge AR experience and unlock the map. Side content waits forever; main quest gating doesn't.
6. Don't farm artifacts before AR 45
Domains only guarantee five-star artifacts at AR 45. Everything you upgrade before then is a temporary placeholder. Use the strongbox-tier pieces you find in chests and save your Resin — and sanity — for the real grind.
7. Interact with everything
Every region hides oculi, seelies, and challenge chests. Exploration rewards are the largest free source of Primogems in the game. A habit of climbing every conspicuous tower and following every blue seelie pays for multiple guaranteed five-stars over a year.
8. Learn the wish pity system
Limited character banners guarantee a five-star within 90 wishes, with a 50/50 chance it's the featured unit. Lose the 50/50 once and your next five-star is guaranteed featured. Pity carries across consecutive limited banners, so saving deliberately for one character always beats scattering wishes.
9. Cooking and potions are free power
Attack-boosting food and defensive potions meaningfully swing tight fights and cost almost nothing to mass-produce. Most players ignore the cooking system entirely — don't.
10. Play at your own pace
There is no competitive ladder and limited events always rerun. Endgame difficulty assumes moderate investment, not a full-time schedule. Explore regions you find beautiful, build characters you like, and treat version events as bonus content rather than homework.
