Combat in Silent Hill: Townfall is a resource-draining last resort, and the game’s ending system actively punishes players who treat it as an action game. The stealth mechanics are deep, and mastering them transforms the experience from a tense survival horror into a methodical predator-prey dynamic where you’re firmly the prey. Monsters patrol fixed routes but have vision cones that must be respected. Crouching reduces your noise radius significantly, and moving slowly (not sprinting) prevents enemies from detecting you through walls.
The CRTV is your most powerful stealth tool. When you see a red signal indicator on the screen edge, it means an enemy is nearby in that direction. Use this to plan your route around patrols rather than through them. If an enemy spots you, your first instinct should be to break line of sight and find a hiding spot. Wardrobes and lockers are scattered throughout every major area — memorize their locations as you explore. Monsters will search the immediate area for a short period before returning to their patrol route, at which point you can safely emerge. Throwing objects to create distractions is a viable tactic, especially when you need to draw enemies away from a door or item you need to access. Note that some enemies appear to have enhanced senses — these “Hunter” variants require extra caution and should be avoided entirely if possible, as they can detect you through hiding spots if they saw you enter one.
