Remedy Entertainment’s Control Resonant has officially launched across Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel puts players in the shoes of Dylan Faden, who must face a supernatural crisis consuming a reality-warped Manhattan. Players can unleash Dylan’s powerful abilities and master the different forms of his transforming melee weapon, the Aberrant, to battle dangerous enemies and massive boss encounters.
Early critical reception has been overwhelmingly positive. VICE awarded the game a perfect 10/10, calling it “a mind-bending action masterpiece,” while GameSpot gave it a 9/10 and Kinda Funny scored it 9.5/10. Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen described the project as seven years in the making, noting that the team aimed to make it accessible for newcomers while expanding the scope for returning players. “It’s ambitious, somewhat crazy, and hopefully thought-provoking,” Kasurinen said. “It was never an easy game to make — but ‘easy’ was never the goal.”
Control Resonant expands on the original’s Metroidvania-inspired level design, offering a larger, more interconnected Manhattan that has been warped by the Hiss and other extradimensional forces. The game introduces new enemy types, including the “Echoes,” which mimic Dylan’s own abilities and force players to adapt their tactics. The Aberrant, Dylan’s weapon, can transform into a blade, hammer, and a new ranged form called the “Lance.” Each form has its own skill tree, allowing for deep customization.
The game also features a new “Resonance” system that allows Dylan to manipulate reality in localized areas, slowing time and amplifying damage. This mechanic is tied to the story and is gradually unlocked as players progress. Exploration is rewarded with ability points, weapon parts, and lore items. Remedy has confirmed that the game will receive post-launch content, including a photo mode, New Game+, and a story expansion in 2027.
Physical editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S arrive October 15, and a Mac version is planned for later this year. The PC version supports DLSS 3.5, ray tracing, and ultrawide resolutions. The game runs at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X in performance mode, with a 30 FPS quality mode that adds ray tracing. On Xbox Series S, the game runs at 1080p/30 FPS. Control Resonant is available now for $69.99. A deluxe edition includes a digital art book, soundtrack, and exclusive in-game outfits.
