The action RPG, set to launch on January 15 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud, and PC, will have players explore different time periods throughout the adventure.

The 1915 setting places players in a Japan undergoing rapid modernization, where the game will handle themes of discrimination and prejudice of the era. This historical focus represents a significant departure from the studio’s signature Like a Dragon series, though the detailed environmental storytelling and character-driven narrative approach appears to carry over. The trailer highlights the studio’s meticulous attention to period-accurate architecture, clothing, and social dynamics, suggesting Stranger Than Heaven will offer both a compelling action RPG experience and a thought-provoking window into a transformative period in Japanese history.

The game’s combat is said to be more challenging than the Like a Dragon series, with a focus on swordplay and firearms.
